Website and web app cost calculator

The short answer

A published survey of more than 100 web development companies (GoodFirms, 2024) puts a small business website at $1,000–$7,000, an online store at $5,000–$50,000+ and a simple to mid-range web app at $10,000–$100,000. These are the market’s figures, each with its source below, not our prices.

Pick what you are building, price an hour estimate at typical agency rates, and add the monthly costs of running it. Every published figure comes from a named, dated source; the calculator only does arithmetic on them.

Estimate your website or app

This calculator only adds and multiplies the published figures on this page. Its results are illustrations, not a quote, a forecast or a typical cost for your project.

How much does a website or web app cost?

GoodFirms surveyed more than 100 web development companies in 2024 and published a range for each kind of project. They are vendor-reported and global, not a US price list.

Market cost and timeline by project type
ProjectMarket rangeTimeline
Small business website$1,000–$7,0001–12 weeks
MVP website$5,000–$35,000+3–12 weeks
Online store$5,000–$50,000+4–16 weeks
Web portal$10,000–$60,0008–30 weeks
Simple to mid-range web app$10,000–$100,00016–30 weeks

The two notes behind these numbers go further: what a web app costs to build and what a small business website costs.

What does a website cost to run each month?

After launch a site keeps costing a little every month. These are one vendor’s list prices for each piece, read on the date in the sources; other vendors charge more or less.

Monthly and yearly running costs at list prices
ItemList priceBasis
.com domain$11.08per year at one registrar (Porkbun); others differ
Web app hosting (Vercel Pro)$20per developer seat per month (the calculator counts one seat); Vercel also lists a free Hobby plan
Business email (Google Workspace)$7–$22per user per month, US, annual plan, before tax
Site builder (Squarespace)$19–$99per month, billed annually
Store platform (Shopify)$29–$299per month, billed yearly

What do web developers and agencies charge per hour?

Clutch reports that US web design companies on its shortlists charge around $100–$149 an hour. That is a price to a client. What developers are paid is lower: the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median hourly wage of US web developers at $44.54, and of software developers in the Cleveland area at $53.52. A wage is what an employee is paid, not what a firm bills a client.

How should you read these numbers?

As a map, not a quote. Survey ranges are wide because a project type covers very different scopes, and they are reported by the companies doing the work. The useful next step is to write down what the site or app must do, then ask for a price for exactly that. If an off-the-shelf tool would serve you better than a custom build, build vs buy sets out how to decide.

Questions people ask about website costs

How much does a website cost in 2026?

It depends on what the site has to do. In a 2024 survey of more than 100 web development companies, GoodFirms found small business websites cost $1,000–$7,000 and take 1–12 weeks, while online stores run $5,000–$50,000+. Those are vendor-reported ranges from a global survey, so treat them as a starting point, not a quote.

How much does it cost to build a web app?

The same GoodFirms survey puts simple to mid-range web applications at $10,000–$100,000 and 16–30 weeks of development. The spread is scope: the number of screens, user roles, integrations and how much data the app handles. A logged-in portal for customers or staff was reported at $10,000–$60,000.

What does a website cost per month to run?

A few recurring costs, at one vendor’s list price each: a .com domain is $11.08 a year at one registrar, business email is $7–$22 per user per month on Google Workspace (US, annual plan, before tax), and a store platform such as Shopify is $29–$299 a month billed yearly. Vercel Pro, one host for custom web apps, lists $20 per developer seat per month.

Why are website cost ranges so wide?

Because "a website" covers everything from three pages to a store with thousands of products. The survey ranges are also global and reported by the companies selling the work, so they are not a US price list. The fastest way to a real number is to write down what the site must do, then ask for a price for exactly that scope.

Are these Blue Snow Developers prices?

No. Every figure on this page is the market’s, with its source and date. Blue Snow Developers quotes each job up front for the scope you describe, and small jobs are welcome, from a check-up of the site you have to a one-page site.

Want a real number for your project?

Tell us what it needs to do. You will hear back from the person who would build it, with a price for that scope, quoted up front. Small jobs welcome.
