A craft brand film where the break is real geometry, not a drawing

The piece was rebuilt in September 2026 in the studio's own vector system, and the rebuild is the point worth reading. Kintsugi is the subject most likely to be shot as a mood — warm light, slow hands, a voice about imperfection — and the easy version of it in motion is a picture of a cracked pot with gold painted over the cracks. This one is constructed instead. The silhouette is drawn first as a single line, on nothing, before any clay exists; the clay arrives inside that line; and the fracture that follows is cut through the shape rather than drawn on top of it. Everything the film later calls a join is a cut the film actually made.

That is not a figure of speech. The vessel is a closed outline, and the break is four straight cuts taken through it by half-plane clipping, which is what leaves the pieces able to tile back into the original shape. The shards you watch drift apart are the output of those cuts, so every shard edge is a true edge of the vessel, and when the gold arrives it lies exactly on the line the cut took. The seam is drawn with a broken edge — clay does not part along a ruler — but the break underneath it is the geometry, not the decoration. The order matters too: nothing is gilded while the pieces are apart. The gold only runs as each join closes, which is the order the repair actually happens in, and the film rests on the whole, mended bowl — one band of light crossing it — before it lets go.

The rest is restraint, and what is absent is deliberate. There are no figure numbers, no materials record, no shard count, no firing temperature — a concept film has no kiln behind it, and printing a spec panel is the easiest way for one to mislead by accident. The single claim the piece makes is the one its closing card makes: ceramics, concept film. The warmth lives in the object rather than the room, which is the one thing the rebuild changed on purpose — the clay is the only warm thing in a midnight frame, so the vessel has to carry it alone. Sound follows the same rule: every sound in it is synthesised, each shard rings its own pitch as it leaves, and the loudest moment in the film is the break, exactly where it should be. The cosmetics range film sits at the other end of that decision — many objects, one material, all of it stated on a claims plate.
